Pretty basic stuff. I'm
finding that you really end up jumping around the plans for a while
doing the QB fuselage. Lots of little things left undone, and you
may as well do as many little things as you can until you need to do
something major that will close off an area. So far I've found
that I'm missing some things with my QB Fuselage. 8 each of
AN515-6R8, AN960-6, AN365-632 for the fuel/brake line holders. 3
of the AN3-15A gear leg bracket attach bolts for the left side weren't
in my hardware bag. One AN515-8R8...no big deal. 8 CS4-4's
for the floor panels. And 4 K1000-3's for the front gear leg
bracket attachment.
Most of the steps here are pretty straightforward. I found that
almost EVERY time I went to flare a brake line, I had forgotten to put
on the nut and ferrule. Watch for that. I FINALLY got to
use my wire-feed Miller welder that I got at OSH a couple years ago.
I loved it, but never even once had a use for it. For doing
these gear leg bolts though, I found I needed to make a good tool for
putting the nuts on the lower portion of the spar... those suckers are
HARD to get on! You'll see the big long bolt with an
old socket bolted on it below.
The biggest part of the project this weekend was the antenna
doublers. I have one antenna per side, in the 2nd bay from the
outside, under the rear seats. I used doublers that I created out
of scraps, that tie it in to the ribs on each side, and also the spar
in front of the rear seats. It came out excellent. Should
be very secure to hold those antennas and prevent skin from cracking.
