Finished fairing the windscreen today. I used an 8" radius template as a guide, it turns out that what I ended up with is more like |
an 8 1/2 - 9" radius , which is alright with me as the Van's 7" is a little abrupt. With the bigger radius there was less sanding of |
the fiberglass on the center portioin as well. The SuperFil worked out great, It set up over night 9just efore bed I applied a 'skim |
coat' over the original coat to try an even out some low spots and fill some voids. I used a 1" x12" round blocking tool and |
wrapped 60, 100, and 150 grit sand paper around it while contouring the radius. when I had it pretty close I applied a coating of |
Metal Glaze over the entire bottom of the windscreen and went back and sanded it again. I also sanded the fierglass tapes |
across the upper bow on the windscreen and then put two coats of metal glaze on them to fair them in. I thought I was done but |
when running my hand quickly across the bottom of the W/S I could feel 'bumps' that my eyes couldn't see. Soo.. back out came |
the blocking tool and paper and I sanded and felt with my eyes closed. until i couldn't determine any more irregularities. I found |
that by closing my eyes I got a truer sense of the sirface than by combining touch w/ sight. before quitting I mixed up some |
flox/micor.cabosil and filled the remaining screw/bolt heads in the inside of the door frame. Tomorroe I'll finish prepping the door |
frame. then on to the cabin top and hinges. |
