Last day before leaving for OSH. Did several more 'layers' of SuperFil on the intercostal door posts. The porcess is to sand the |
existing 'layer' as smooth as possible and close to the desired countour and then trowel in another 'layer'. wait for it to set-up. |
then .... repeat. did this 4 times today, fortunately the heat helps get this stuff set up pretty quickly, and I'm able to get several |
'layers' in a day. otherwise it woul dbe an overnight cure cycle. I've got about 6 layers on to this point and will probably need |
another 2 and then a switch to Metal glaze for the final fill before the Smooth prime. Part of the problme is that I'm not exactly |
sure what the finl contour should be, Today I found out that a larger filled area with one continuous curve is more aestheticlly |
appealing that the earlier compound contour. Another reason why it's taking more 'layers'. since i have the instrument panel |
loosely installed, I decided to tackle the control stick final length cut. inserted a stick and then measured where the grip should |
be positioned and then cut off the stick using a high speed cutoff tool. I used several drillbits to create a hole on the insode of the |
curved tube so that the wire harness can be run down thruogh the center of the stick rather than alongside. Used the Dremel to |
open up pthis hole and to round the edges to minimize chaffe. Added several layers of heatshrink to the harness where it passes |
through thehole on the inside stick. |
