FreeFlight WAAS GPS working! Got the FF WAAS GPS installed and working. This really isn't that hard of a task, There's only 5 |
wires between the EFIS's and the FF (three RS 232, power and power ground) and an antenna. I made the connections to the |
FF, I had previously installed the harness on the OP side. I crimped on 2 TNC cconnectors I got from Fry's to 50 ft of RG 58 and |
then ran the antenna outside, then powered everything up. There are several options for configuring a 2nd GPS on the Op |
set-up, but the FF is not explicitly listed (on my s/w version). i picked the one I thought was most likely (NMEA) but I got |
indicatoinf from the EFIS status that it wasn't communicating, I then changes and picked 'OP Tech' and rebooted (computers |
don't you just loved them!?!) The status changed to 'connected but not communicating accurately. I fussed on this for several |
hours contected OP tech support, and finally suspected a problem with the antenna. Meanwhile, fedex delivered my latest |
Mouser care package, and it had 2 new TNC connectors that I had ordered. I replaced the TNC connectors from Fry's (cheap, |
cast metal) with the new amphenol and powered everythign back up an WHOOHOO!. I've got both GPS functioning and I can |
select either one at will from the panel. Tomorrow I tackle XM Weather! |
