I decided that I would add a modification I learned about from Robin Marks. It's an access door through the aft baggage |
bulkhead. Particularly useful to refill the O2 bottle, and to service the batteries. The 1st step was to cut out the opening being |
carefull, as the piece that is left needs to act as the door itself. I used the air grinder and a cutoff wheel. To make some 'door |
jams' I used one of the seat backs that came with the kit. I didn't use theseat back themselves because the Clasic Areo rear |
seats use their own frames. I cut 1 1/2" wide strips from one of the seatback panels and match drilled them to the sides of the |
door, leaving about 5/8" exposed into the door opening. I used a 3/4" piece of 1/8" flat alum across the top, and then a 1" piano |
hinge across the bottom. After trueing up the door edges, and the door opening, I dimpled, primed and then riveted the door |
'jams' in place. I added two "J" channel stiffeners to the center of the door to provide some stiffness to the door. I picked up |
some camloc type fastners from Aerozona on Tues. I'm going to use them to close the door. Initially, I'm going to try and use just |
2, one in each of the upper corners, I may need to add 2 midway down the door if it doesn't secure it enough. its been MUCHO |
hot here lately, so progress on anything is SLOW. My painter called yesterday and he's good to go on picking up my plane late |
