After several conversations w/ ed Hayden, he finally convinced me to use Robin Marks approach for door seals. |

http://www.painttheweb.com/rv-10/doors.htm After fitting the Right door, I can safely say I'M GLAD I DID!. I ordered 50 ' of the |
door seal material from McMaster Carr. I used a HF 90 degree air grinder with some samding discs, and climbed inside the |
plane, and itteratively removed material until I had a uniform gap of about .20" between the door and the cabin cover. I cut |
several pieves of the door seal material and test installed them as I progressed with the sanding. It worked remarkably well, and |
didn't disturn the paintjob on the inside of the cockpit 9although I've got a TON of dust again!!). I already had the pilot/Left door |
off the plane, so I covered the hinge recess areas by fabbing some fiberglass pieces (6 ply lay-up over duct tape taped across |
hinge opening). After cure, I trimmed the layups to fit slightly below the recessed area and then floxed them in place, i put a bead |
of flox around the outside perimeter also, when it cured I sanded it all flush. And then used some filler to bring everything level |
with the inside door skins. This will allow the doorseal to make a tight seal completely around the door. With the hinge covers |
closed off, I needed to install #10 mini- nutplates in the hinges in order to attach the doors. |
