Began today by removing the pilot door ro prep for interior paint. there is only about 1" pf the door frame that will be exposed |
beyond the upholstery panel, but in that 1" there are some flaws that still need to be filled/sanded/blended before painting the |
inside of the door frames. I sanded as best I could all of the flaw/ dings in the exposed portion of the door frame, and then |
started to mix some smooth prime. i remembered that the Main Emp fairing still needed to be primed, and as long as I was going |
to mess w/ primer I might as well do it now. So I got out some 100 grit and sanded the entire sirface of the fairing, then applied |
some very light coats of primer and used a credit card to squeege the primer into as many pinholes as possible. When that dried, |
I sanded the entire fairing and then mixed up some smoothprime, and rolled it onto the fairing. did 3-4 light coats using the small |
foam rubber roller, let it dry and then 'rough sanded' that w/ 100 grit. mixed some more primer and went back and applied |
another 2-3 light coats of primer. Then I got back to what was supposed to be today' s main task i.e. the door and applied |
several coats of primer to the door edges. I sanded 3/4 of the emp fairing w/ 220 grit until the light got too low, I'll finish up on that |
and sanding the door fram tomorrow. then start on the co-pilot door. Maybe i'll get them painted Wed. before we leave for Piper's |
