Continued working on the main emp fairing. 1st order of business is to get it clamped on the Horiz & vert so fits as close as |
possible, Match drill #40 to the holes in the horiz & Vert. Cleco. I had erronerously riveted the aftmost rivet on the rop tailcone |
skin along the longerons. This ends up getting eventually tapped for a #6, So I drilled out the rivets on both sides. Marked the |
fairing per plans , then removed it and used a cutoff wheel and some #80 grit to get it to 'final' shape/contour. The plans say that |
the opening in the rear where the Elevator horns travel through needed to be marked and trimmed to allow min of 1/4" clearance |
through full travel. so I remounted the Elevators, It turned out that it wasn't totally necessary and the opening was plenty big |
enough. Although there is a small portion of the right close-out 'rib' that requires some trimming to avoid interference with the |
right elevator in the full down position. Reattached the fairings , and then final drilled all the Vert & Horiz holes to #27, (and |
clecoed w/ #30's). Then carefully countersunk (#6 aka 27) the fiberglass on all of the #27 holes in the fairing. Then removed the |
fairing again, and used a #6 nutplate w/ Screw inserted, and a cleco clamp, to hold and drill all of the #27 holes for nutplate |
attachments, deburred the holes and thenI began to dimple the nutplate rivet holes. ran out of time for today, so tomorrow, I'll |
continue, I may need to dissassemble at least the Vert stab in order to dimple and rivet all of the nutplates. Additionally the holes |
along th ebottom close out rib, get drilled and tapped for a #6 screw and that might require removal of the Horiz Stab & elevator. |
