Before moving on to the Left Wing tip. I needed to make and install a Marker Beacon antenna in the Right tip. After 'consulting' |
on the Aeroelectric list. I found that a piece of RG 58 coax, that is stripped of the outer insulation and the shielding, leaving the |
interiorinsulation and the main conductor, will serve as an excellent MB ant. So I found a piece of RG 58 that had the right sized |
connector , and measured 38" and stripped off the respective pieces then laid it into the 'bottom' of the wing tip. I 'potted' it in |
place using some body filler to hold it in position. Then I used some 2" BID fiberglass tape I have and applied a layup over the |
38" section. When that cured, I determined the best location for the connector to match the connector coming from the wing |
counduit, and I glassed in the remaining 14-16" of coax. I applied an additional 3-4" piece of glass on the end where the |
connector is. Monday, I pulled the Left wing tip off the wing, and removed the original lens, and using the same method as on the |
right I cut and fit a replacement. I'm much happier with these than the originals. Also I'm only going to use the single corner |
screw w/ a countersunk ss washer. I taped the lens w/ duct tape and applied some evercoat metalglaze filler, I'll sand it |
tomorrow . Too cold & wet today. |
