Working on getting the wing tips ready for paint today. I was not happy with the way the Nav light lens turned out on the originals. |
I ordered a replacement lens a year or more ago, and today I got around to replacing them, at least the Right side lens. I cut the |
lens part in half per the instructions, then found the best fit, by moving it in place over the wing tip, and used a sharpie to mark |
about 1/8" larger than the exact size. Used a cutoff wheel on the airgrinder to cut it out, then a series of progressive sanding |
steps using the disc sander to get it fit snug. Then I marked the corners (I'm only going to use the cornor screws this time) for |
the screw holes, and drilled them. !@#$#!@$!!!!! wouldln't you know that when I inserted the screws the fit was NOT as good as |
before. !@#$@!. Oh well.... Its probably a blessing as even though it was close, it wasn't perfect. So I took the lend off and |
covered the edges with duct tape, reinstalled it, and then used EverCoat Metal glaze to fill any gaps and foide and to fiar the lens |
perfectly to the wing tip. Severall applications and repetive sanding, and the end product came out looking Great!!!!!. I'm not sure |
if I'll paint the inside of the lens with silver metalic like I did the previous or not. We'll see. I'll start on the Left tomorrow. |
