I just found out yesterday, that it's probably going to take me at least 10 weeks to get my medical back. (If all goes well). So that |
takes a little wind out of my sails. So I've got some time to spend on some of the cosmetic things, before rushing to get the wings |
on and the engine cranked up. The leather that I installed on the glareshield shrunk and peeled back during the summer when |
the plane was at the painters (left buttoned up in AZ summer direct sun !). It was extremely difficult in getting the leather to |
stretch around the compound curves in the 1st place. So I decided to peel the leather off, and then paint the glareshield the |
same color as the leather. So today, I peeled off the old leather, and then washed everythign in acetone to remove the glue |
residue. then gave the shield a good sanding w/ 60 grit. I want the glareshield to look good, so I need to do a better job prepping |
it for paint. I used my old friend metal glaze and skim coated the entire glareshield, and then sanded most of it off. This served to |
take out most of the pits/voids and provide a uniform surface. Tomorrow I'll apply several coats of UV SmoothPrime, and then |
sand most of it off, to fill the scratches left from the sandpaper. Then I'll spray several coats of the matching interior paint. |
