Combo update for Wed & Thurs. The stryofoam circles that I fashioned didn't work out, there was too much of a change to |
accomodate. So.... I cut off the forward portion of the intake, temporarily mounted the plenum in the cowl, used some duct tape |
to tape the pieces in relative position, and then used some 'Great Stuff' expandable foam to fill the inerior voids and serve as a |
platform for laying up some fiberglass to rejoin the pieces in the proper position/orientation. Good idea, poor execution!!!! What a |
mess!!!!!! The foam doesn't cure well in low humidity enviornments (our humidity = <5% ! It also doesn't cure will in Large voids |
!!!!! Bottom line it took all day and night and several reapplications to get enough of the stuff set-up and cured sufficiently = |
Wed. shot! It was soo ugly that I refused to take picures! It was cured enough today that I was able to cut / sand enough away, |
and then I applied some plasticine clay to smooth the area and provide a better base for a new lay-up. I also had to make |
provisions for the 'cut-out area' for the prop governor control. I should be able to get started on the lay-up (probably will take 2 for |
the Left side) tomorrow, This plenum is going to take a couple more weeks, with, right side repositioning, oil filler access, Filling |
and squaring the sided. micro filling / sanding the intake tubes. Oh well it's summer and the livin is easy! |
