I started off on the fiberglass modifications to the plenum today, I noticed right awat that the prop control rod ran through the |
intake plenum. I cut out the interferring part and will glass a patch that fits around it. There was also some interferrence between |
the plenum and the crossmember and the lower portion of the #2 baffle, so I cut that out as well and will reglass. I'm going to |
have to make some major modifications to the right intake area anyway. The right rear portion of the plenum needs to be |
extended aft about 3/4" in order to utilize Van's baffling, so taking a tip from Ed Hayden, I cut the portion off with a dremel tool, |
clecoed some plastic covered .032 to it and then expanded it aft, and reclecoed the .032 to the plenum. this will allow for the |
exact distance when this piece is reglassed. But before attempting those I needed to have the plenum 'hard mounted' to the |
baffels. So trimmed any remaining posts on the plenum that were interferring with it's positioning, and then trimmed each cyl |
side baffle to be flush with the top of the plenum, did this on both sides. Fabbed some .032 reinforcement tabs, match drilled, |
countersunk and riveted these (6) to the top of each cyl baffle. I went back and drilled #19 hole in the center of each for a #8 |
screw, and then matchdrilled the plenum. Took everything off, and then drilled and riveted #8 nutplates to the sides of the |
plenum. Reattached the plenum after hard mounting the baffles w/ screws, and traced the trim line for the rear of the plenum |
with a fine line Sharpie. Removed the #6 and #5 baffles, and trimed them and remounted everything. |
