Started a New Plans Section today. After getting some advice from the Matronics list, I decided to to the gear fairings before |
mounting the engine and the wings, and after just a part of one day on the task, I can see that doing this now is going to be |
MUCH easier than doing it after the wings are mounted and also to a lesser extend before the engine is hung. I also got some |
advice about how getting these 'perfectly aligned' is more a matter of chance than skill. I'm making every effort to get them |
straight, but the measurements are +/- 1/16" and the fiberglass surfaces that are used as reference points are +/- 1/16-1/8", we'll |
see how it goes. I was happy to find that Van's had " machined the forward edge of the Rear shell on the gear faitings so that |
there is a CLEAN 90 degree edge to mate to, you still need to true up the fwd shell to mate to it, but this certainly makes it |
easier, If only the rest of the fiberglass was the same!!!! I've got both pants joined w/ cleco's and marked for enterlines, also |
marked the Gear attach brackets for nutplate drilling. My engine arrived........ and left today!!!!! The driver didn't have a lift gate, |
which is an absolute necessity to get the 500 lbs of engine crate safely off the truck, Try again tomorrow morning. |
