Finished with the repair to the aft edge of the upper cowl half. Just a lot of careful sanding and fitting, but this time it looks MUCH |
better! I was a bit worried to whether the flox would adhere to the narrow fiberglass edge, but it seems to have done the trick. |
The fittment on this whole cowl has been a source of angst ever since finding the right horizontal seam with barely enough |
material, and then the aforementioned upper aft edge. So I approached the hinge that joines the upper and lower together with |
some fear/worry about things moving and it not fitting. Since the sides "bow' out naturally by their own weight, it changes the |
mating line between the two halves. Anyway I clamped the -5 hinge to the bottom cowl, (everything is still clecoed at this time) off |
set the hinge pin 1/4" to mask the hinge and proceeded to drill and cleco the hinge to both bottom halves. Afterward I mounted |
the upper cowl halve and clecoed it to see if my worries played out and. GOOD NEWS, Things still fit just as before ! IF I use |
some duct tape to bring the lower halve up to and flush with the upper, the seam is still even and tight!!!!! Monday, I'll move on to |
drilling these to the top halve and then countersinking, prosealing and riveting. |
