Parking Brake control cable. Here's something that actually went better than I expected ! I needed to figure out a mounting |
bracket so I could secure an adel clamp to the bowden cable for the parking brake. I went to Matco's website and loaded their |
engineering drawing For some dimensions and control lever travel. 9The lever needs to be brought back aprox 110 degrees in |
order to get it into the closed position. From this I was able to figure out the dimensions. I ended up with a simple bracket made |
of .062. I started with a piece 3 1/2 inched wide by 4 1/2 inches high. I bent it 09 degrees in the vice, making sure that the bend |
would allow the lower portion to be well below the control lever on the brake valve. To my surprise I had ordered a couple extra |
cable end "B" swivel nut some time ago and was able to locate one of them and installed it in the end of the brake valve lever. I |
had to make the bracket 2" wider than the brake valve in order to get the Bowden cable and clamp positioned far enough to |
move the cable into the closed region. I drilled to #12 holes .064" apart to match the Brake valve mounting holes and then used |
AN3 bolts to sandwich the bracket between the brake valve and the firewall mount. Got some rubber grommets from ACE and |
routed the cable through the lower portion of the upper firewall lfuse ribs. Cut the cable to final lengths and secured it w/ a DG3 |
clamp. Verified the operation and range. SWEET! |
