Installed the landing gear mounts. Began by cutting & deburring the 4 spacers from the al tube (took a while to locate the tube |
stock) The nproceeded to install the mounts. I was sweating this because when I test fit them previously it too too much |
'persuasion' to get a couple of bolts in, and I was concerned that I might have some alignment issues. But once again, Van's |
precision engineering paid off.I found that the earlier problem was binding of the leg mount where it exits the bottom skin, after |
enlarging the exit hole, the mount fit well (tight, but well) There are 2 bolts on the bottom inside of each mount that take some |
noodeling to get washers and nuts on, as they sit between the 2 center section spars and there's not room to get a hand in there. |
Check the photo album, I ducktaped a 3/8 open end wrench to some angle, then taped a 6" ruler to the back to act as a stop, I |
used some ez turn (sticky stuff) to hold the washer and nut in place while I wrenching the bolt head from the other side, all in all |
not too bad. Everything got torques and lacquered. I'm beginning to feel like things are ecoming together. up to this point it's |
been a series of steps to build parts, but from this point on it seems like each step is adding something to the finished plane, |
Anyway its probably just mental, but it seems more satisfying. |
