Fuselage Progress - Starting out slow

5/7 - 5/8/05

Here are the initial quickbuild fuselage pics as I was starting it.  I found it real hard to get rolling, initially, as there is no guide as to which temporary rivets you should pull right away, or how you should start the QB fuse.  The general comments from Vans are that you should read through the complete plans and verify each step of completion...makes sense to me.  So that's how I started.  I did the inventory, and found I was without front floorpans, and a couple other things, so I'm going to get those on their way this week.  After pulling the rear floorpans, I realized that they didn't prime anything under the floor....looks like they just sprayed the kit after they were done working on it.  So, since I'm putting sound deadening foam in the floors and some of the walls, I just decided to pull the floors all out.   Good idea anyway, since you're going to want to open it up to inspect it.  I found a couple of clecos and a drill bit left in the fuselage.  Also, if you're going ot run conduit under any of the floor, now's the time to get started on that too.

Most of the firewall was not prosealed to the skins, so I started by doing that, along with prosealing the air vents to the firewall.  Then it was on to bigger things...
...As you can see, it sure didn't take long though to get to the step where you can mount the tailcone to the fuselage.  That went pretty well, but as a warning, that really is NOT a one person job.  There's a lot to align properly as it goes together.  After the first
